My Elite is messing up This fucking sucks I just bought it last spring and already having problems. I thought the Elites were supposed to be better! It is making a god awful noise upon putting a disc into the tray, then over half the time it won't read the damn thing. I have to put in the disc repeatedly to get it to play. I'll be on the phone with Microsoft tommorrow, even though I doubt it will be covered under the warranty

Don't give me that shit. Although Kita already warned me, I'm still hoping my Elite will go without any issues.
Why don't you just play it off the HD? It's a lot quieter now and aside from slight lag during the game when going into the dashboard/friend's list, I like it better this way.

Well, as I told Kim, since you don't have the new chipset I would advise finding some down time that you can use to induce the RROD since that has 3 years of coverage. You won't get the same machine back, so whatever issues it has will go with it to be stored and fixed later. In the meanwhile you'll just get someone else's Xbox that's been stored and fixed and has it's own little quirks (like my refurbished one that likes to freeze as much as Force's, which my first one never did). I think even if you play off the HD it needs to read the disc at least once before it'll work, otherwise people could just rent and rip games. If it's having trouble reading discs period this might not be a fix, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah, if it acts up from time to time this might at least decrease the number of times you have issues. But I didn't know they would give me another one. I thought they would just give me mine back

Hehe, nope. There was a telltale mark on my Xbox that made certain for me when I got this one that I didn't get my old one back. Most companies do this because it buys them time. Unless it's something with a built in hard drive they have no reason to rush around fixing things as they come in, they just shove it to the side and sort it out when they find the time. That's why M$ tells you not to send your hard drive in with your Xbox. I'd be surprised if they even send out the refurbished Xboxes from the same location as they receive the broken ones. Although I did hear of one Xbox that was actually fixed and sent back to the original owner, but he called and made a special request. They made it up to him later (as best they could).

something tells me that microsoft hired someone from dell to desighn their hardware...they take a lot of the same cost saving shortcuts that dell does in their cheaper desktops.

You should try running it off the hard drive just for the heck of it, you never know what problems that might iron out. Plus it's quieter and there's less strain on the disc drive. My OB disc was giving me all sorts of shit until I installed it. There were reading errors every now and then, and strange textures and artifacts were constantly popping up everywhere. Haven't had a single problem with it since I've installed it to the hard drive. Also, ever since I've stopped using the disc drive so much (since I install all my games now) it has stopped making the clicking sounds it used to make whenever I put in a new game.

LOL I have my xbox from the first day it came out no problems, and I have a cooler on the back of it so that it doesn't overheat and get RROD. ;D

yea i have one of the original intercoolers but it was loud and after a while one of the fans gave out causing it to make the 360 get hoter instead of cooler. if microsoft would of just spent the extra $5 per xbox and put fans on the processor and GPU then this wouldent be a problem in the first place.

Yeah, the Xbox has an incredibly faulty build. I don't understand why they don't just fix it and bump up the price a bit instead of having to deal with endless repairs. Seems like it would be better for everybody.
Its general faultiness put me off of buying one for a long time, but this generation's consoles are all kind of weak and I needed some gaming in my life so I sprung for one after the Falcon chipset came out since it seemed like the best console and I couldn't afford a PC.
So far, I haven't had any major problems with it but I'm sure that won't last long.

My elite works fine, and I haven't downloaded any games to my hard drive.
